YUMMY—A DESIGN TERM PACKED WITH DELICIOUS MEANING

If we work together, guaranteed you are going to hear me use the word “yummy” a few dozen…or more times. While yummy is not one of the standard vocabulary words you learn in design school, I find it to be a design term packed with delicious meaning.
For me, yummy design is just like butter. Think of a well-designed space like dipping everything in that liquid gold, luxurious perfection. Just like butter, the right patterns, textures, colors, lighting, art—and the list goes on and on—makes everything just right.
When I call fabrics or furniture yummy, it means it is going to add tremendous flair and flavor to a space. Just like too much butter can tip the scales from delicious to sloppy, yummy design details need to be carefully curated for that similar culinary perfection. The perfect blend of prints, colors and textures accented with a unique touch that directly reflects the client’s personality = a yummy space.
Here are a few things that you can guarantee I will describe as yummy.

When textures, patterns, art and accessories reflect a couple and their individual personalities come together to delight and surprise, that is yummy design perfection.

These are the perfect bookends for a doctor’s home office, filled with appropriate books that offer fuel for the mind. This is a yummy accent that adds a touch of personality to the environment.

This luxurious tile is a yummy splurge that adds dimension, texture and visual interest. This detail takes the standard bathroom setting to whole new level—yummy sophistication.
